James M. Cox, Jr.
Jimmy practiced and served Anderson County and surrounding areas for over 35 years. He was married to Miss Kay Smith Cox and they lived in Belton with all their pets and animals. Jimmy graduated from Wofford College and then eventually went on to graduate from the great University of South Carolina School of Law in 1977.
Jimmy handled just about everything, from Real Estate Closings to Criminal Defense to Family Court and Civil Law, and everything in between. He also served as Judge for the Town of Williamston and on the Anderson County Council throughout his illustrious career.
Jimmy went on to be with the Lord in March of 2024. He was son of the late James Merideith Cox, Sr. and Helen Inez Campbell Cox. Jimmy was Chairman of the Anderson County Council when the Anderson Civic Center and the new Anderson County Courthouse were built. He was, quite literally, one of the biggest Gamecocks fans alive. In addition to his wife, he was survived by his daughter, Maxi Cox Henry, his son Didier Burbano, and grandchildren, Jessie Alewine, Rachel Eades, Garry Eades, and Seth Eades; ; The “Meathouse Gang” (his lifelong friends), especially his “brothers” Terry Cox and Roger Simpson.
We, and everybody that knew Jimmy, miss him and his gravitational personality every day. His legacy will carry on for years and generations to come and we are proud to have his "name on the door" here at Cox & Cole LLC - something that will never change. Jimmy Cox was truly a one of a kind human being, in a class by himself; rare, special, unequaled, unique, and unparalleled. We aspire and can only hope to maintain the highest of bars that Jimmy set throughout his years here with us on Earth.
